Supercars and Survival

Super cars were back in force at the recent Geneva Motor show, where Ferrari unveiled the Enzo replacement, and McLaren a  successor to the fabled F1. Lambo was at it, too, parading a monstrosity that demonstrated an excess of carbon fiber and a hi-po V12 are no longer enough to cut it in the hyper ca
r arena. Once exotic, the aerospace material is now commonplace in super-sports cars: hybrid technology and active aero are now the cutting edge for those wanting to be a real player porche engineers are sure to be sweating over the final development of the 918,due later in the year, as the 850bhp, 1700Kg hybrid spider is looking a little weak against the 950bhp, 1250kg LaFerrari. Nothing that a couple of the turbochargers strapped to the V8 won’t fix! We await the final result.

It wasn’t just supercars creating talk amongst the team this month. Causing a bit of a stir in the office was the arrival of two mainstream, seemingly mundane car, the new Mazda 6 and Volkswagen Golf, both raising the stakes in their respective market segment. With eight months still to go before we make the  call on the care gory winners in AMI Insurance NZ Auto car of the year awards , the pair already have staffers talking about potential car of the year winners. We look forward to putting them into comparison test to see just how well they fare.
Speaking of contests, the announcement came this month that  the march edition of top Gear NZ was the last and that the magazine is no more. It’s a tough environment we work  in, but NZ Auto car will continue to bring you the best in NZ motoring content, as we have done under the current masthead since 1996.
